The ice pick was a DLC weapon (Downloadable Content), this was a fun one to work on because it’s a melee weapon, used in direct hand-to-hand combat for multiplayer. This ice pick was designed and concepted from scratch by Ryzin Art under direction from Raven Software. Close attention was paid to perfecting the look of a real ice pick, with defining the mix of steel, aluminium, and plastics. As well as lots of use of height based damage and gloss variation to really drive home the look and feel, and careful exaggeration was placed on certain texture centric damage in key first person areas from the player’s perspective. Concept design was by Nathan Campbell.
